This weekend I decided to head over to the coast to see what I could find, but on the way I had to stop by Point No Point to find out if the ARCTIC LOON was around. I arrived early Saturday morning and observed the loon at the Hansville Store location from 8:30 am to about 10:00 am. I had some great looks at this bird and was really happy with this super start for my birding weekend.
I then drove the Westport/Tokeland area and finished the day birding along this portion of the coast. At Westport there were 12~ ROCK SANDPIPERS at the marina. The next morning my goal was to bird around Ocean Shores, but I wanted to make a quick trip back to Grayland to see if I could locate the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD. Well, all I had to do was get out of may car at the Beachcomber Grocery (about 7:30 am) and the bird was right there, singing away. Highlights of my weekend birding included:
ARCTIC LOON - Point No Point
COMMON GREEN-WINGED TEAL - Oyhut Wildlife Area, Ocean Shores
BRANT - Point No Point and Bottle Beach
LONG-BILLED CURLEW - Bill's Spit, Ocean Shores
WHIMBREL - Tokeland and Bowerman Basin
ROCK SANDPIPER - 12~ Westport Marina
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - Grayland
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER (Myrtle) - a nice look at a couple of them in bright breeding plumage at Bowerman Basin and Bottle Beach
PEREGRINE FALCON - Bowerman Basin
Cheers and Good Birding;
