With the early onset of many species this spring wanted to posted a couple
of firsts that I've observed in eastern Klickitat County near Bickleton
within the last week. Last Wednesday (April 11) I had 2 HOUSE WREN about 5
miles south of Bickleton and yesterday and today there were GRASSHOPPER
SPARROWS about 3 miles south of Bickleton. Interesting considering there are
also a couple of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, at least one NORTHERN SHRIKE and several
VARIED THRUSH still hanging around. It is has been about a week since I
lasted detected a TOWNSEND's SOLITAIRE, the area has a very large winter
concentration of this species in the Junipers surrounding Bickleton, south
to Roosevelt.
