Just wanted to let people know that there is still a couple of spots open
for the May 5 WOS (Washington Ornithological Society, just didn't want any
emails blaming me for not spelling out an acronym..) trip. It will be a long
day, meeting in Soap Lake at 5:30 am, traveling the morning through the
shrub-steppe getting all the shrub-steppe birds including good looks at
Grasshopper Sparrows (they can be quite numerous in some spots up there)
(assuming the wind isn't howling, no guarantees in 30 mph wind on these
birds... )and the possibility of Sage Grouse (we won't be visiting any of
the leks), ducks and shorebirds depending on water levels. The afternoon
will be spent birding Northrup Canyon and Sun Lakes St. Park for migrants.
We will also scope for waterfowl along the coulee lakes and return to Soap
Lake around late afternoon, ~4:30-5pm. I realize this is a long day, but
weather cooperating, should be a great trip. If you are interested please
email me at the address below.
