Given the number of reports, this must be one of the best years ever for
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on April passage. In 11.5 years residing here in n.
Lake Stevens, we had never had one--until yesterday at about 6:20 pm. I
flushed the bird down low from the forested edge of the entry drive, from
whence it flew away and landed in open aldery habitat at the yard's edge.
This was no fleeting bird--it stayed around doing its' best Empidonax
imitation, flycatching over the open air over the lawn, and in the
alders--and then landed right on the roof ridge of the house! I snapped
several photos, which of course didn't come out; nonetheless, I was able to
enjoy the newest addition to the yard list for a good 20 miinutes.
