Hey Folks,
Been a while since I have written anything to the listserve! I am in a program this quarter called Animal Behavior (down at evergreen) and we have to do a quarter long project studying behavior. I am proposing to study Steller's Jay nest territory defense. The only problem with that sort of study (besides potentially bothering the birds), is that Steller's Jay nests can be hard to locate if you aren't lucky. I know there are some nests in the Evergreen woods down here, but I was wondering if anyone else would be willing to help me out with some Western Washington nest sites. I am not going to subject the birds to any sort of tests, it will all be observational. Optimally this won't affect any nesting birds, I am going to watch by scope and binoculars.
So - if anyone is willing to help me by divulging to location of any Steller's Jay nests in the Western Washington area, I would be thrilled! I understand (as you can probably tell by my explanation of the study) many of us don't like telling people the location of nests (regardless of the species) but I will be very respectful. Thanks a lot in advance! Feel free to respond to me off the listserve. If people are interested in what I am doing or want to hear my results, I'd be happy to share once the study is done.
