Greetings, all,

Late this afternoon in Seattle's Discovery Park, on the loop trail where
it first meets the military housing area if coming from the south, I saw
what appeared to be an adult hybrid White-crowned/Golden-crowned
Sparrow. The bird was feeding on the trail with a couple of adult
Golden-crowned Sparrows and a Spotted Towhee. Unfortunately, I didn't
have a camera. I first took the bird for a White-crowned, but then
noticed the forward half of the crown stripe was bright yellow. Paying
closer attention, I noted the crown stripe was broader than usual in
White-crowneds, especially forward; the white eye-line was grayer than
usual in White-crowneds; the bill was darker pink than usual in
White-crowneds; the lores appeared black.

Happy Earth Day,

Alan Grenon
