Hello all,
Monday the 23rd Nashville Warbler and Rufous Hummingbird visited Shirley
Muse's yard in Walla Walla, Yellow Warblers were first reported the 19th in
the Fort Walla Walla Natural Area, and we had a couple House Wren, Yellow
Warblers and two Chipping Sparrows at Bennington Lake yesterday. Also at the
lake was a Great Egret - it was there last week as well. A non-breeder? On
up Mill Creek we heard three more Nashville Warblers singing.
Our yard is full of White-crowned Sparrows with a dozen Evening Grosbeaks
off and on for the last week and Lincoln's Sparrow's have been moving
through the valley. Western Kingbirds have been seen in several areas
starting the 19th. Swainson's Hawks are back on nest in good numbers this
year with several nesting in College Place and Walla Walla.
Sunday we visited Tyson ponds - Dodd road slop ponds are empty of shorebirds
this year - it is all gray and really nasty looking - don't know what they
have dumped there. The pond below with all the bullrushes/cattails is dry
this year - and no shorebirds and hardly any ducks in the 2 ponds with
water. So we may not have any nesting avocets/stilts this year in the
county.
Now for the orioles, tanagers, buntings - - -
