Hi Everyone,
Today after school Jonathan Frankel, Sam Riley, and I enjoyed a wonderful
day at the Fill. we started out by finding a family of 4 killdeer, 2 of
them were baby's! they were so cute and fuzzy I didn't think it could get
any better. about then a Vaux's swift zoomed over, accompanied by barn and
violet green swallows. the alders held gobs of yellow rumped warblers, they
were every were! then we saw the pheasant. he was at close range right on
the trail. when we got up to the lake Sam found a Pintail with many common
mergansers. overhead we saw many beautiful tree swallows. we continued on to
the main pond and found 3 least sandpipers along with all the shovelers. we
also saw two bald eagles. over the lake from a vantage point near there we
found 4 kinds of swallows: Cliff, Violet Green, Barn, and Tree. in the
parking lot pond there were the pair of cinnamon teals which we had not seen
for a while. thank you Brett Wolfe for telling us about those and sorry if I
spelled your name wrong. in that same area there were at least one singing
common yellowthroat which gave us brief but great views. we then turned
around and went back around the loop again. by the main pond we found a few
northern rough winged swallows making it a five swallow day! in the Shoveler
pond there was a Dunlin with 3 other peeps. these may or may not have been
the least's we saw earlier on the main pond. overall it was a great day to
be out birding!
