Tweets,

To answer Phil's question regarding Turkey subspecies,
on the San Juan Islands, the birds are of the eastern
subspecies: Meleagris gallopavo silvestris. I know
populations in SW Washington are of this species as
well (as of a few years ago, ODFW was STILL doing
introductions in western Washington, ugh!). East of
the Cascades, there are both Rio Grande and Merriam's
subspecies as well (intermedia and merriami,
respectively).

The population on San Juan Island is countable, though
by my understanding of ABA rules, many of the ones in
Thurston, Lewis, and Pacific Counties etc. are not
because of the recent releases in these areas.
