Tweets,
This morning Dick Johnson, Cate Hopkinson and I saw the beautiful male
Common Grackle at 536 Twinview just west of the road down to Dungeness
Landing CP (the old Oysterhouse). It stayed in the yard all the while we
were looking at it but occasionally flew up into the willow tree in the same
yard. We heard a peculiar song from right above us, looked up and there was
a male Yellow-headed Blackbird above us. It was not the 'I'm being strangled
call' I am used to.
This is only the 4th YHBl I have seen in Clallam. The others were in
'97, I think this is the first Common Grackle for Clallam County. Thanks
Steve Mlodinow.
We looked for shorebirds and it was hard work but we saw several Greater
Yellowlegs and one Marbled Godwit at Dungeness Landing as well as Dunlins
and Black-bellied Plovers. We saw Sanderlings and western Snadpipers at 3
Crabs and 8 Leasts and 21 Dowithchers (Cate and I thought they were
Short-Billeds) at Blyn. I've got to relearn the Dowitchers again.
