Hello -

I admit to being somewhat of a purist when it comes to protecting and
preserving the regional natural biota. That said, I suggest that it is
unfortunate when pet owners are responsible for releasing nonindigenous
species when they get tired of them (or err in their efforts to keep
them caged). It is equally irresponsible in my view for state and
federal agencies to actively release nonindigenous species such as
turkeys or various sport fish beyond their natural range.

Neither the addition of birds to life lists nor the benefits of hunting
and fishing for these species justifies the real ecological damage that
often comes from these introductions.
