As I took my usual Saturday saunter across the Manette Bridge in Bremerton
in search of a latte, I spied three BALD EAGLES. All were sub-adults,
ranging in age from 3 to 1, I think. Oldest was perched on a piling on the
Manette side of the bridge, the others were perched on the Turner Joy navy
vessel.

Oldest flew across the water towards the ship and the two younger BAEA.
Youngest abandonded her perched as soon as she saw Oldest; Middle stayed to
stand up to Oldest. A small skirmish ensued, Oldest got the prime perch
atop the ship. Meanwhile Middle and Youngest started to mix it up, swooping
and flying at each other.

I watched the three birds for about 15 minutes. Oldest tried for a fish and
missed, whereupon she was mobbed by gulls and a crow. Middle and Youngest
disappeared behind some downtown buildings for a while, then appeared again
flying side by side, matching wingbeats. Looked very cool.

Being able to watch BAEA practically from my doorstep in an urban area never
ceases to blow me away!
