Tweets,
Plenty of migrants passing through Tenino area in south Thurston Co. on
Saturday, 4/28. Highlight of the 78-species day was an incredibly bright and
crisp WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (white stripe) at Bob Sundstrom's feeders.
Season firsts:
- PAC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER (1)
- HERMIT THRUSH in small numbers in various locations
- WARBLING VIREO (1)
Other interesting birds:
- SOLITARY SANDPIPER, first record for Mull Rd. marsh
- LINCOLN'S SPARROWs apparently passing through
- "BLUE" GROUSE hooting on Vantine Rd (first noted last spring)
- RUBY-CR KINGLET - a few isolated individuals, quite inconspicuous unless
singing
I also had a possible SWAINSON'S THRUSH calling, then answering my imitation
4 times, though never in "full" enough voice to be certain. At fairly close
range but couldn't get a visual. In general proximity with two (more?)
Hermits.
On Friday morning, 4/27, heard a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, a tad early for this
location. Tenino's migrants (or at least some) generally run slightly later,
by a few days to a week or more, than arrivals to coastal areas or river
valley lowlands.
Good birding!
