The Birding Section Committee of Nature Vancouver (Vancouver Natural History
Society) has decided to reactivate the Vancouver Bird Records Committee
(VBRC), which has been in existence since 1980 with a few gaps in activity.
The purpose of the VBRC is to preserve evidence of the occurrence of casual
and accidental bird species in the Vancouver area (generally, those seen
less than once a year) such as photographs and written field notes. The VBRC
will also review these records to determine which of these occurrences are
adequately documented, with the intent of publishing an annual report
summarizing these occurrences.



We strongly encourage anyone who observes or photographs a casual or
accidental bird species in the Vancouver bird checklist area (generally,
those species listed in italics in the 2004 Vancouver British Columbia and
Vicinity Seasonal Status of Vancouver Birds checklist) to send us copies of
their photos, and/or detailed field notes.



The Rare Bird Report Form included on the Nature Vancouver website
(http://www.naturalhistory.bc.ca <http://www.naturalhistory.bc.ca/> - click
on Birding) may be used, or field notes may be submitted using the same
headings included on the Report Form.

All documentation received will be placed in a permanent file which will be
open to review by any interested persons, whether or not they are Nature
Vancouver members.



We hope that the Vancouver Bird Records Committee will receive broad support
from Vancouver area birders, and we thank everyone who provides
documentation for these extremely rare birds.
