It?s not quite time for the southward migration
of turkey vultures, but larger groups are being
seen so nesting and fledging time is winding down
a bit. Turkey vultures tend to drift around a bit
after nesting, but the main surge south is from
mid-September through early October. So, watch
for those grey-headed guys, those are the young
of this season. Following are sightings from
Washington, British Columbia, and Oregon for July 2007:

01 ? 1 soaring over Littlerock; 1 at North Delta, B.C.
02 ? 1 roosting near Littlerock
03 ? ? at the River ?S? Unit, RNWR
04 ? 1 at Littlerock heading northwest; ? at Englishman River Estuary
06 ? 1 northeast of Littlerock
07 ? 1 east of Roy; 1 soaring near 1-5 exit 96; 1
at mile marker 25; 2 at exit 14
08 ? 3 over the Riverside Golf Course, Chehalis;
? at McGregor Marsh, Nanaimo, B.C.; ?many? over
the Lantzville foothills, B.C.; 2 along Big
Hannaford Road, Lewis County, 2 near Lincoln Creek; 1 at Nisqually NWR
09 ? 3 at Rock Lake, Whitman County; 5 the over Sprague sewage ponds
11 ? 1 over Day Creek Road; 2 west of Snoqualmie
Pass; 12 in the Sultan area; 5 west of Mount
Vernon (1 or 2 usually seen daily, especially around cut grass fields)
12 ? 1 over Rosario Beach; 6 soaring over the
Enumclaw Plateau; ? from Top Bridge Trail, Parksville, B.C.
14 ? 4 low and close to the Bow Hill Road exit,
Whatcom-Skagit county line; 1 at the Maplewood
Conservation Area, B.C.; 1 near Ocean Shores
15 ? ? over Legacy Marsh, Lantzville, B.C.; 1
over the Chehalis wildlife area wetland; 1 at
Reifel Bird Sanctuary, B.C.; ?very common? seen
from a float trip down the Deschutes River,
Oregon through the 20th; 3 over Hwy 109; 1 north of Hoquiam
16 ? 1 over Duck Lake in Ocean Shores
17 ? 1 at Maplewood Conservation Area, N.
Vancouver, B.C.; 1 juvenile hunting fields with a few crows at Ridgefield NWR
19 ? 1 checking out a dead raccoon at Grays
Harbor NWR; 1 in a field near Hoquiam; 2 over Grays Harbor NWR
21 ? 1 between Auburn and Enumclaw; 1 over FR 70
22 ? ? at Ladysmith, B.C.; two kettles (6 birds
and 7 birds) over Mt. Pleasant, Skamania County
23 ? 1 flushed at Wallace Swamp Creek Park,
Kenmore; a kettle of 8 over Mt. Pleasant; 6 at
Protection Island; 1 south of Hwy 109; 4 at
Satsop turnoff, Hwy 12; 1 over Elma Rest Stop,
Hwy 8; 1 at weigh station near Monte-Brady
25 ? 1 over Hwy 109; 1 at turnoff to Ocean Shores; 1 at Damon Road
26 ? 28 sitting on fence posts near Chehalis
28 ? 3 at Windy Gap; 1 at Devonshire offramp, Montesano; 1 south of Elma
29 ? 1 at Humptulips River Bridge; 1 at Grays
Harbor NWR, Hwy 109; 1 over Hwy 109
30 ? 2 at Elma; 3 at Satsop; 3 west of Aberdeen;
2 west of the Johns River WRA; 1 at Bottle Beach;
5 at Midway Beach Road; 3 at Tokeland; 1 at Grayland
31 ? 1 soaring in an enormous thermal southwest of Littlerock
