Subject: [Tweeters] Meteora, Greece - large bird ID?

Anyone out there in Tweeterland familiar with Greek birds? A couple of weeks ago my partner and I were at Meteora (central mainland Greece) and saw three very large birds soaring around the pinnacles. They were far enough away that I couldn't get much detail even with binocs, but they were black/dark overall with white or yellowish underbodies - not just breast but the whole underside except wings and tail. I found a website with a Meteora birdlist, and of the species listed the closest one in appearance was the Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) - but according to another website it's described as one of the rarest raptors in Europe, with only 2-3 pairs in the Balkans (not far from Meteora) and "very few individuals" on mainland Greece. Did we just get incredibly lucky, or is there another species that would have been more likely?

A long shot, I know, but there's such a wide range of expertise in the Tweeters community, I thought I'd try!

Thanks in advance,
