Caren,

I thoroughly enjoyed your photos of month. Very nice
shots.

I'm quite curious about the "pom pom mallard"--do you
know anymore about this individual? Is it a genetic
mutation or possibly an injury that has the feathers
growing all weird on its head? Those are only thing I
can think of looking at the photo...

this past weekend was filled to the brim with photo
opportunities, and some of them panned out... among
the more interesting: a purple martin feeding a chick
on the fly, an eclipse wood duck male enjoying a
series of stretches, a woman jumping into union bay
(from about 35 feet up) just as her big toe touches
the water (the look on her face is priceless), a
close-up of a black-headed grosbeak chick with its
beak caked in suet, pied-billed grebes (and a cute
chick!), and a hairy woodpecker, who has made my
little forest a five-woodpecker-species forest...

oh, and a few of those noisy non-flapping flying
things that stopped traffic on thursday morning... i
think they call them "blue angels" :)

i hope you enjoy the photos, which are available in
the "photos of the month" gallery...
