Hello, Everyone,
We made a quick stop at Lincoln Park for a walk after buying veggies at the
Farmer's Market. We looked for the Cooper's Hawk family that we have been
watching since they fledged, and found one young bird calling. (At one
point, last month, we located four juveniles.) But we were quickly
distracted by lots of Hummingbirds of both species, and my first BLACK
THROATED GRAY WARBLERS(3-4)of the year. Also seen were WESTERN TANAGERS
(3), BLACK HEADED GROSBEAKS (4), several PAC. SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, a very
brief look at a mystery Warbler, and overhead, three PURPLE MARTINS. All of
these birds were located on the south end of the park in the deep woods.
(Use the interior trails, not just the bluff trail.) There were a few chips,
but none singing. I think it might be time to bring a lawn chair to the
woods, West Seattleites! Needless to say, we were there for an hour and
half, but didn't walk very far! There are many fledgling park regulars, too.
When we got home, (Gatewood, not far from the park) two PURPLE MARTINS flew
overhead, one feeding the other in the air. New for the yard list.

Not bad being trapped in West Seattle during the I-5 construction!
