Hilary and I sailed to Blake Island from Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge Island
Saturday morning (8-12-07) and back this afternoon.

Both going over and returning from the island we saw several Red-necked
phalaropes ? our first for the season (is this early?).

Like last year, they were feeding in floating tidal lines of bright green
algae, often swimming quickly in small circles to create a vortex, pecking
from the center of the circle on zooplankton and other small critters (small
flies on the algae, too?).

Ghosting along under sail we could get very close to them.
