Hi all -
Naches Pass, in Southeastern King co came through again today with
another surpise bird. This morning, MaryFrances Mathis, Tom Mansfield
& I found a juvenile female WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER close to the tree
marked 15 [15 miles from SR 410] on FR 70. It was actively pecking on
a tree that showed lots of working. The sapsucker was working a tree
about 50 feet off the road on the north side [left side as you drive
up FR70]. If you park at the mp15 tree, then walk back along the road
about 15 feet, you'd be looking directly into the trees where the
sapsucker was working away.


Overall, the day's birding was pretty slow - we didn't turn up either
3-toed or Black-backed Woodpeckers [both of which have been seen up
there recently]. We did have a couple nice mixed flocks drop by -
mostly Townsend's Warblers, but one HERMIT WARBLER was mixed in.

A Glaucous-winged Gull up at Government Meadows was new for our Naches list.

And over by Kelly Butte, we watched a young Northern Goshawk buzz by.
