Last Saturday we visited some friends at Lake Cushman, on the Olympic Peninsula. Of course, they have Bald Eagles and Ospreys up there, and one of our friends told that one day she (and someone else) had observed an eagle taking a large fish out of the lake. She said it was then mobbed by a big bunch of Ospreys -- she thought about a dozen, and the other person who had seen this said about 18 of them! However many there were, they didn't succeed in taking the fish away from the eagle. I've never seen so many Ospreys in one place, but I have no reason to doubt the story. Does anyone else have a similar story to tell?

BTW, one the way home at dusk, just coming down highway 101 into Shelton, there was at least one nighthawk hawking insects over the highway; I couldn't slow down or stop to see if there were more.
