While staying at Depoe Bay, Oregon this past week, I witnessed a bazaar spectacle over Seagull Rock. Right in town, just before the bridge is a big rock where zillions of gulls roost. Usually they are busy flying back and forth, calling and making the usual seagull racket, but this time, on just one night out of 6, right at dusk they began flying in a circle over the rock, which started with just a few birds and eventually included hundreds in a tornado type fashion! They circled and screeched until after dark, sounding like a scene from "The Birds". I have been vacationing in this same spot for several years and have never seen anything like this. Who knows what they were doing?
