Hi Tweeters:

Here is a recent report of both red and white winged crossbills invasion
from Alberta Birds online.

Don't know if this will have some effects on white winged crossbills
tricking down south towards Washington and Oregon. But hey, doesn't hurt to
wish:)

It sounds plausible with earlier reports this summer from Salmo Mt (Terry
Little, Mike Marsh), Bunchgrass Meadows (Khanh Tran), and Togo Mt.(Khanh
Tran).

FWD:

As some of you probably already know, Banff and Jasper national parks are
currently experiencing a crossbill "invasion". It seems that at almost any
stop one makes in the parks, one or both crossbill species can be seen or
heard. Earlier today, near Two Jack Lake, there were 14 Red Crossbills and
six White-winged Crossbills taking grit. Among the Reds were birds of at
least two call types [Types 4 and 5?]. I would like to make some sound
recordings of the Red Crossbills around Banff in order to determine how many
call types are present among them. If anyone with recording equipment would
like to join me for a morning, I'd be grateful for your assistance.
