Hello! Your description of the Swainson's reminded me of those we used to
see every year not many miles north of Tucson gathered in huge "landlubber"
flocks, feeding on grasshoppers and I know not what. It was an annual event
not to be missed. When, and where, do our hawks go south for the winter? Do
you know if ours go over to the grasslands before going south or just head
south west of our coastal ranges?
By any chance, have you followed any of the falcons radio-tagged in
Chile in February and now nesting in or near Baffin Island? One, a female
named Arena, may be heading south next month? Sorry, off the
subject--but migration is an endless mystery!.
Regards, Murray
