I just returned for a walk across Seward Park. I was quite happy with a very
close encounter with two winter wrens and the sounds of a nuthatch, but as I
descended to the eastern side of the park, I had an even more exciting
encounter. I decided to take that particular path because I heard several
loud calls. I noticed a pileated woodpecker sitting on top of a snag (near
the old maintenance house), then immediately a small raptor began to harass
the pileated. I watched for about 15 min as she repeatly chased the much
larger bird away from the snag. It was quite exciting!
