Hi Tweeters,

I spent the weekend birding in the Westport and Tokeland areas. Here
are the highlights:

Buff-breasted Sandpipers (three) north of the road into Midway
Beach. They were extremely active and a real challange to digiscope.

Bar-tailed Godwit (only one yesterday and today) with the Marbled
Godwits on the breakwater at the Tokeland marina. It is amazing to
me how many fisherman (or fisherpeople) have no concept of what bird
watching is and why anyone would want to do it. Just a short
political statement.

Other hightlights:

One Red Phalarope at Bottle Beach Saturday morning. It stopped very
briefly on the beach, then flew east.

One juvenile "Streaked" Horned Lark at Midway Beach Saturday afternoon.

One very accomodating Pectoral Sandpiper at Midway Beach barely north
of the road Saturday afternoon.

Photos of these birds plus several others are in the new photos
folder on my website.

I saw 24 species of shorebirds yesterday, a new one-day record for me.
