Jim, this has been of interest to me-- do you identify the birds
migrating at night by their calls? And did you notice anything
different last night during the full moon eclipse? I was up all night
working, so I got to view the eclipse (a very rare completely clear
night in Olympia). A family of barred owls became vocal as the shadow
was nearing complete coverage of the moon. The female (I think) kept
calling hoooooo-waaaaaahhhh every minute or so after the others were
silent again. While out there, I also heard what must have been
songbirds migrating? An occasional high thin rising call. Were these
perhaps thrushes?

Hi Tweeters,

It was a very good migration night last night over Battle Ground,
Clark County which meant not a good night for sleeping. I was out
"observing" form 12:30am through 6am (and a little sleep in between)
with the following results:

Swainson's Thrush 610
Yellow Warbler 20
White-crowned Sparrow 3
probable Wilson's Warbler 1
probable MacGillivray's Warbler 1
unidentified warbler 68
Western Tanager 1
Caspian Tern 1!!!!!!!!!!
