This afternoon during incoming tide at 3:30pm we surveyed the shorebird habitat along Mounts Rd. in southern Pierce Co. We started out with very few shorebirds,but numbers increased by 4pm from the good shorebird habitat near the end of Mounts Rd. Highlights included probably the same juvenile RED KNOT we observed here on the 26th of August. The bird was only seen briefly,but well as it foraged alone along an area that was more flooded. It was a great bird to see since this represents the 3rd Pierce Co. record to date and apparently the first record of this species in Pierce Co. since August 23rd,1942 by the late John Slipp in Tacoma. Thanks to Ed Swan for informing us of this record and one other very old record for Red Knot in Pierce Co.

1 Turkey Vulture
1 Cooper's Hawk
15+ Semipalmated Plovers
30 Killdeer
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
220+ Western Sandpipers
18+ Least Sandpipers
4 Baird's Sandpipers
