On the lighter side, after getting up in the middle of the night to marvel at the lunar eclipse in a clear sky, my target bird for the day was ... a male duck in eclipse plumage. Birding in the afternoon with my wife and friends from Utah, I found several such Mallards at our very first stop (Blyn, near Sequim).

The several Bonaparte's Gulls and Marbled Murrelets at nearby John Wayne Marina were of higher interest to the rest of my party. ;-)
