Sorry for the late posting. Yesterday I birded from Kent to Renton in fairly
chilly weather.

I started off at 287th Street, where I was checking to see if the kingbirds
might still be around. I was unable to find any sign of them. At Smith
Brothers along West Valley Hwy there were a number of Cackling Geese, 1
juvenile Snow Goose, 8 Trumpeter Swans, and 1 Tundra Swan. At Kent Ponds, I
had 5 Canvasbacks and a heard-only Swamp Sparrow from the south tower. No
luck on the Red-shouldered Hawk. 204th Street was loaded with waterfowl, but
only expected species (at least 600 Green-winged Teal).

I headed up to Renton in the afternoon. At Gene Coulon Park (near Duck
Island) the flock of Greater White-fronted Geese contained 28 birds. Among
the coots were a few Aythya ducks, including 1 male Ring-necked Duck x
Scaup, sp. This bird looked exactly like the bird Cameron Cox and I saw
there on 26 December 2003, and could even be the same bird.

I spent much time scanning the gulls from the kayak center at Cedar River.
Nothing notable this time, but the diversity is there, with many Herring
(and Herring hybrids), and Thayer's. There was a single Clark's Grebe among
a couple of Western just offshore the sandbar.

That's all folks,
