Hi Tweeters & Inland NW Birders -

A group of us have been working on keeping track of county year lists
for most of Washington's 39 counties this year. The latest update of
our efforts has been posted by the Knittle's at wabirder.com . We'll
do one final update after this, when 2007 draws to a close. Seeing
the results come in over the course of the year has been a lot of
fun, and has helped me improve my picture of what a year of birds
really looks like across the state.

So far, it looks like 396 species have been reported in Washington
this year. 44 species have been seen in every county, and over 130 in
more than 30 counties. Over 20 counties have recorded more than 200
species so far this year.

The idea behind this project is to step away from individual year
lists and see what it would look like to track 'combined' year lists.
These county year lists are collaborative efforts, with each tally
representing the collective sightings for a county rather than any
one individual's list.

While not every county has been updated every month, for a volunteer
collaborative effort, I've been surprised at how consistent compilers
have been about sending in updates.

If you'd like to take a look at the list, excel & pdf files are available at:
