Hi Tweets,

With little time for birding today I stopped off this morning for a quick
look at Moses Lake. It was extremely windy here and made viewing difficult,
but there were a few birds about.
One of the most interesting sightings involved an apparent Gadwall/Mallard
hybrid. I believe those are called Brewer's Duck. This bird did not look
like the Audubon Plate, rather, it looked like someone stuck a mallard head
and butt on a Gadwall body. Color was difficult given the weather, but it
appeared that the head was dark rather than green in comparison to adjacent
Mallard.
Two Trumpeter Swans were a nice find. They seem to be annual in the basin,
but one must look through many Tundra Swans to find the few Trumpeters
present. Both were adults and had no young with them.
Other interesting water birds included large numbers of Hooded Mergansers
and Buffleheads with both males beginning the breeding displays already.

Cheers
