Saturday afternoon, as I was walking my dog, I heard, then saw a bird, American Robin? or perhaps Northern Flicker?[I know that they aren't much alike, but I just saw a flash of color with the jay covering the bird]screaming as the jay hung onto its back? leg? The bird landed, and was able to take off, with the jay still clinging to it, and clear a six foot fence. Once it cleared the fence, I think it was able to land in a tree, judging by the lack of screaming, and by the alarm sounds of two Steller's jays.
I've never seen a jay on a grown bird before--has anyone else?
