PUGET SOUND BIRD FEST in Edmonds is moving! To a different time of
year, that is. After three years of the event taking place in May, the
2008 Bird Fest will be in September. It will feature more great
speakers, guided walks, field trips on land and water, a marketplace for
vendors and exhibitors, backyard wildlife sanctuary tours, and of
course, the "On Wing" Art Show. So, mark your calendar to be in Edmonds
September 12-14, 2008 to celebrate birds and nature!
Edmonds has lots of beautiful sunny weather in September, and chances
are good that you will see some delightful (and maybe unexpected) birds.
Best bets on the waterfront and the Sound itself are Common Tern,
Parasitic Jaeger, Heerman's Gull, and Red-necked Phalarope. Wooded
sites like Yost Park will be harboring some migrating warblers, and
maybe you'll spot Hermit Thrushes feeding on the ripe berries. Pectoral
Sandpipers may show up at the Edmonds Marsh, along with other shorebirds
such as dowitchers and yellowlegs. Who knows what other surprises
September '08 has in store for us?

Bird Fest needs your help!
Even a small festival takes a lot of planning and organizing. The Puget
Sound Bird Fest Steering Committee is looking for help with this fun and
rewarding task! There will be an organizational meeting on Wednesday,
January 16, 7:00 pm, at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main Street,
Edmonds. All who are interested in helping to plan and organize the
next Bird Fest, in September, 2008, are invited to attend. Many
volunteer committee positions are open, including speakers, field trips,
education, publicity and hospitality. Come and join the fun!

We'd also like to hear from you if you have any great suggestions for
next year's Puget Sound Bird Fest in Edmonds!
