Six large birds that I did not recognize flew into the more or less
bare-limbed trees above the dying blackberry bushes in front of my bay
window this afternoon about 4 pm and stayed around until it was almost
dark, giving me plenty of time to check them out with my binoculars and
consult my Sibley. I think they were Ruffed Grouse, but I have never
heard anyone mention their existence out here between Onalaska and
Morton, so I am questioning my conclusion. Whaddaya think?

As a work of art, I know few things more pleasing to the eye or more
capable of affording scope and gratification to a taste for the
beautiful than a well-situated, well-cultivated farm. --Edward Everett
