Work today took me to the western foot of Badger Mt. south of Richland. Out of the corner of my eye glimpsed a falcon land on the top of a power pole. I initially took it to be a Merlin, but after grabbing the bins and moving in for a closer look discovered I was looking at a small, dark Peregrine. I've come to expect to see Peregrines along the Columbia River, particularly on the Yakima River delta, but this location is at least 5 air miles from the Columbia River. I'm still surprised.
