Buron Guttman's comment about House Finch "swarming" in the Olympia
area interested me. When I first returned to central Washington, a
neighbor who is a back-yard-bird feeder told me that Finch left this
area in the Winter, so putting up my finch feeder would be an exercise
in futility until Spring.

My question is whether Mr. Guttman's surprise at his observation was
partly that he did not expect to see Finch this time of year, or was my
neighbor just trying to limit the competition for the neighborhood
Finch?
