And to get to Rockport (and see even more bald eagles along the way) I
recommend taking the Old Skagit Highway (from Highway 9, just south of HWY20
in Burlington) over to Rockport. This lovely quiet road parallels HWY20 on
the south side of the river, with lots of places to pull over. Sometimes I
see as many bald eagles (in winter) on the way to Rockport, along the Old
Skagit Highway, as I see in the Rockport area. As you can see on the
Washington State map, by taking this road you will end up on HWY530, just 5
miles south of Rockport, and you will see still more bald eagles along the
5-mile stretch north to Rockport. This makes for a lovely, laid-back
outing.

We spotted four on Tuesday, but had reports from the Rockport area of

a "convention of them".

Your best bet is to drive from Rockport to Marblemount, stopping at

the pullout a few miles upriver from Rockport and at the Howard Miller

Park in Rockport.

You may see more Eagles on the Skagit and Samish Flats near the deltas

of those two rivers.
