This morning, Lonnie Sommer, and Sherry and I headed down to Oregon in
search of the Arctic Loon. We arrived at the bridge just after 8:00am
and scoped both sides of the slough for a little while until Bill came
over and said he found the bird at the far east end of the slough. We
drove back on Gnat Creek Rd and parked at a pullout next to the boat
launch. We watched the bird, along with a few other birders, for 40
minutes with great scope views. This was a lifer for Lonnie and Sherry,
and my second. This also makes the 5th loon species in 1 week. Last
Sunday we saw the Common, Red-throated, Pacific, and Yellow-billed
during the Olympia CBC.
