Taking advantage of a sunny day, I walked the (dark, north-facing)Olympic
discovery trail east from Port Angeles to Morse Creek this afternoon
(12/26). Near the old rayonier mill site, where the trail makes a big loop
to the south away from the water, and then heads back north on the east
side of the giant brown tank, there was actually some direct sun, and lots
of bird activity (both kinglets, siskins, bushtits, fox and song
sparrows). On the ground with some ruby-crowned kinglets was a single
orange-crowned warbler, observed for about 30 seconds.

Other notable birds were a female black scoter west of morse creek 1/4
mile, and a flock of 20 or so golden-crowned sparrows, with 2
white-crowned sparrows, about 200 meters south of the point where the trail
leaves the coast and begins to follow morse creek.
