I to am amazed that we always want to kill it if it causes us a problem. I
never much cared for crows until 5 years ago. I was a volunteer with Sarvey
and I hand fed a lot of birds over the four years I rehabbed. The last six
birds were crows and I got them when their eyes were still closed and they
were naked. These are the sweetest and smartest birds I have handfed.
Because I had an outdoor avairy I was able to put them into a 10' flight
after they got feathers. They could hear the other crows and the other crows
came to look in on the babies. I was able to release these six crows into my
own yard because I had outdoor feeders and a trap door that the babies could
still come into at night.
These babies were adopted by the older crows on my property and probably
live there still. We moved a year later.
I also hand-raised a pileated baby woodpecker, dozens of baby robins,
dark-eyed juncos, stellar jays, house finches, house sparrows, and even
starlings. I loved this while I physically could. It is a time in my life I
felt I was giving back a lot more then I took.
