I read recently that Anna's hummingbirds are late winter nesters.... If memory serves; Through Feburary. I have not confirmed this yet but your post has reminded me to do so.

That's not surprising or unusual. However, the abundant sunshine today (now that is unusual) apparently caused at least one of the males to start displaying, including its squeak at the bottom of the "J" flight display. To me, that was a surprise for Dec. 24 but very fun to watch! It made more than a half dozen display flights while I was working in the yard mid-day.
