Right before it began to snow in Upper Rainier Beach on Dec. 25th, we noticed an unusual number of birds in the area around our house. First, there was an influx of about 200 Robins, followed by the first Pine Siskins we have seen this year. About 15 minutes into the frenzy, a flock of about 15 Cedar Waxwings landed in our holly tree. They stayed for about 5-10 minutes, eating berries and just as I was turning away from the window, I noticed a larger waxwing, picked up my binoculars and confirmed it was a Bohemian, slumming with the Cedars. This is a backyard first for us.
