Subject: [Tweeters] raccoon nest warmer? (West Seattle)

Walking in West Seattle today, we saw a large furry critter (assume a raccoon) curled up atop a large-ish stick nest (crow nest?) high in a bare tree at the intersection of California SW and SW Lander. It was either one large raccoon or two smaller ones snoozing together. Last winter I saw one in the owl box at Discovery Park, which made more sense as a raccoon roost than a bare tree at a busy intersection. Has anyone else seen raccoons borrowing birds' nests? Seemed odd...

In the water near Constellation Park we saw harlequin ducks, a few surf scoters, and what really looked like 3 female or juvie black scoters (pale cheeks, thin bill, head shape). Has anyone else seen some along there? Hmmm...
