Hi Brenda and Tweets,
During the Swainson's Thrush migration watch in Sept, I was sitting in the middle of the back yard just before dawn one morning. 2 raccoons crept up the hill paying no attention to me. One moved to the front yard. The other climbed up our tall Douglas Fir. It settled in way in the top and slept there all day. Towards the evening I watched to see when it would come down. It waited until it was quite dark, 8:45pm, and then scampered down the tree. It makes sense that raccoons would prefer to sleep in trees during the day--they have many tree condos from which to choose.
