Hi Tweeters,

I squeezed in a short but rewarding walk after having
to go to UW campus for a bit. This was my last
birding for '07 unless a Barn Owl flies over my house
tonight.

For once I took my scope thinking I could get a better
look at the gulls that hang out on one of the marina
tops but it was bare of gulls and all the gulls were
lined up on pitched roof marina tops and even less
scopable. I found out why on the walk back. I had
heard crows harassing something in the line of cedars
by Kenmore Air. I thought it might be a raccoon but
it turned out to be an immature Bald Eagle with a gull
prey in one of the trees. The eagle had a hugely full
crop. So my scope came in handy anyway. The eagle's
eye was pale and the bill had some yellow in it so
maybe a 3rd year bird, no pale head feathers or tail
feathers yet but the undertail coverts were snowy
white already.

There is a lingering adult California Gull that hangs
out with the friendly crows, pigeons, mallards and the
weird Muscovy like duck at the SLU park. If it isn't
around feeding the other birds would likely bring it
in.

I also saw an Orange-crowned Warbler with Black-capped
Chickadees, Bushtits, and a Bewick's Wren near the
Kenmore Air area. This is the second time I have seen
the OC Warbler so I look forward to running into it
again next year.

After this weekend of back to back CBC's it felt weird
to not have to count the birds.

Wonder what my first bird of '08 will be?
