Good morning Tweeters,
I had quite an exciting day in my yard yesterday. I was visited by several Northern flickers and starlings. Then came along a mixed flock of friendly juncos and song sparrows to clean under the feeders. The house finch and purple finch came to add their beautiful color to the drab winter garden. Then the ever persistent house sparrows and chickadees came for their share of the food. They were followed by a robin who ate cotoneaster berries and skimmed back and forth across the pond just barely dipping in his wings and feet. I had never witnessed that behavior from a robin before. Several little rambunctious Townsend warblers and ruby-crowned kinglets came to take a bath and play in the garden brambles. They are so much fun to watch. Then like a helicopter, in flew a hummingbird to hover above the pond. I think it was a male Anna's because of the ruby throat. My favorite, the polite little bushtits appeared next. They were a little late to get the best pickings from the suet feeder, but they are too gracious to complain. The biggest surprise of the morning was the red-breasted sapsucker who swooped down to take a bath and get a drink. I have only seen him high in the conifer tree drilling holes, never in the waterfall.
Well, if all that wasn't enough excitement, I went down to the mouth of the Cedar River by Boeing to look for the Palm warbler and slaty-back gull. I didn't see either one. But I had a wonderful walk with many song sparrows, robins, and ruby-crown kinglets to keep me company.
I love sharing the world with birds and people who love birds!
