Sunday February 04, 2007:
The Sunday Bird Walk went to the Englishman River Estuary, Plummer Road
side, in Parksville. Eleven birders found the following forty-three
species: COMMON and PACIFIC LOONS, HORNED GREBE, BRANT,DOUBLED-CRESTED and
PELAGIC CORMORANTS, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE, BRANT GOOSE, AMERICAN
WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, SURF and WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, BALD EAGLE, MEW
GULL,THAYER'S GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, BLACK TURNSTONE, BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, DUNLIN, BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLERS JAY,
NORTHWESTERN CROW, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, BEWICK'S WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED THRUSH, EUROPEAN STARLING, SPOTTED TOWHEE,
SONG SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, HOUSE SPARROW, HOUSE FINCH, PURPLE
FINCH, DARK-EYED JUNCO and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD.

Friday February 02:
Two WILSON'S SNIPE were seen feeding in a small steam on the Cottonwood Golf
Course in south Nanaimo.
A white juvenile SNOW GOOSE was spotted in with CANADA GEESE at Rathtevor
Provincial Park.

Thursday February 01:
A pair of TOWENSEND'S WARBLERS and CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES are visiting
suet feeders in the 1100 block of Stymie Close Chartwell area of Qualicum
Beach. A RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was spotted in the 6000 block of Tweedsmuir
Crescent in Nanaimo.
There was an unconfirmed report of two TURKEY VULTURES over the Nanaimo
dump along Cedar Road in south Nanaimo.

Wednesday January 31:
The Wednesday Bird Walk went to the Little Qualicum River Estuary.
Among the highlights of the morning were TRUMPETER SWANS, WESTERN GREBE,
PACIFIC LOONS, a large raft of BLACK SCOTERS and seven GREAT BLUE HERONS
that flew over us through the fog.
The morning fog lifted for an hour for the thirteen birders to find the
following fifty species: PACIFIC LOON, COMMON LOON, HORNED GREBE, WESTERN
GREBE, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, TRUMPETER SWAN, CANADA GOOSE, AMERICAN
WIGEON, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER
SCAUP, HARLEQUIN DUCK, LONG-TAILED DUCK, BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER,
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, COMMON GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER,
COMMON MERGANSER, GREAT BLUE HERON, BALD EAGLE, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, BLACK
TURNSTONE, DUNLIN, BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, MEW GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL,
WESTERN GULL,THAYER'S GULL, HERRING GULL, MARBLED MURRELET,BELTED
KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW, HERMIT
THRUSH, AMERICAN ROBIN, EUROPEAN STARLING, MARSH WREN, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER
WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET,CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, HOUSE FINCH, SONG
SPARROW, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD and BREWER'S BLACKBIRD

Tuesday January 30:
A white juvenile SNOW GOOSE was seen in with a flock of CANADA GEESE at
Parksville Community Park near Parksville Bay. The SNOW GOOSE was being
hassled by the CANADAS but was holding its own. AMERICAN WIGEONS, WESTERN,
GLAUCOUS-WINGED and THAYER'S GULLS were also in the Park.

Monday January 29:
Three EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in the 100 block of Copper Place in
Parksville. Over five PINE GROSBEAKS were seen along Granite Park Road in
Nanaimo. ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting feeders in Yellow Point.
