I was excited to see the post about a Townsend's warbler appearing at the feeder in Edmonds, a first sighting at that site in 19 years. I've lived here for 17 1/2 years and likewise never saw one at my feeders, then in mid-January one appeared and I saw him again this past weekend. A friend in Portland, OR, says she saw one, too and had never observed one at her feeders before, either.

Interestingly (at least to me :) there's been a big change at my feeders in the past 2 years. We used to have house finches and English sparrows. We never see them anymore and they have been replaced by Bewick's wrens. The bushtits and black-capped chickadees never fail to appear, however! I wonder if the disappearance of the finches and sparrows has anything to do with the two sightings of a Cooper's hawk zipping through my yard last year...
