Hey tweets, this must be Washington state's best-ever year for
White-throated Sparrows. I found one hanging out behind the animal
shelter at the Kent Ponds. It was foraging behind the chain-link fence,
along with numerous Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Golden-Crowned
Sparrows, and Spotted Towhees. A very beautiful specimen, with white
head-stripes, clear yellow lores, and very defined white bib. It and
the Great Blue Heron perched high in the tall trees there entertained
me while I searched in vain for the red-shouldered hawk. Four tries and
still counting! I haven't seen him roosting in the woods, as others
have. I haven't seen him coursing the power line trail, as others have.
I haven't seen him bursting forth from a low tree beside the ponds, as
others have. Believe me, when this bird finally does show himself to
me, I am going to expect a lot from him: Morris dancing, at the very
least.- Connie, Seattle
